Preview, rename and download. All in one place.
Re-encode WebP assets at a chosen quality while retaining WebP output and original dimensions by default. A quality of 75% is the starting point, not a guarantee of a fixed reduction. Already optimized images may save little; the Smart Size Guard retains a no-smaller original for unchanged-size compression. Check transparent edges, logos and small text before downloading a new delivery copy.
How it works
- Review the initial format, 75% quality and dimension setting before adding your images.
- Drop the batch and compare the ready preview with the original at 100%. Increase quality or change dimensions if the result needs more detail.
- Use Apply & re-compress after any setting changes, then download ready files individually or as a ZIP.
Compression choices and tradeoffs
| Feature | Original WebP | Compressed WebP |
|---|---|---|
| Quality | Already encoded source | A new encode at the selected quality, starting at 75% |
| Dimensions | Source resolution | Original dimensions initially |
| No-smaller result | Original file bytes | Kept when format and dimensions are unchanged and the new file is no smaller |
| Target size | Varies by image | No guaranteed KB limit or fixed savings percentage |
Frequently asked questions
Does this preserve an animated WebP?
A re-encoded export is a still image. If the size guard retains the original file, its original bytes stay intact, but animation preservation is not the goal of this compressor. Use an animation-specific tool when frames must be preserved.
Is lossy compression the same as keeping every original detail?
No. JPEG, WebP and AVIF quality settings are lossy and are not directly equivalent across encoders. Keep original masters and compare fine detail at 100% before using compressed copies.
What does the Smart Size Guard protect?
For a same-format conversion with unchanged dimensions and no canvas edit, it keeps the original if the encoded file is no smaller. It does not undo a requested format change, resize or white platform canvas.
Can I request an exact size such as 100KB?
Not in the current tool. You can adjust quality and dimensions and inspect actual output sizes. The compressor does not keep lowering quality secretly to meet an arbitrary byte target.
