Converting large PNG artwork to AVIF can be useful for website delivery, but it changes the encoding from PNG's lossless storage to an AVIF export at the selected quality. Keep the PNG master files for editing, and compare detailed text or illustrations before using the converted copies.

How it works

  1. Choose your PNG artwork, screenshots or transparent graphics.
  2. Set quality and dimensions; keep full resolution if small text is important.
  3. Inspect transparency and detail in the preview, then download your AVIF batch.

Frequently asked questions

Will PNG transparency work in AVIF?

Yes. The local AVIF encoder retains an alpha channel. JPEG output would instead flatten transparent areas onto white.

Should I replace my original PNG artwork?

Keep the original PNG as a master copy. This AVIF workflow uses the chosen quality setting and may resize the image, so it is intended for export rather than archival replacement.

Can I convert an entire screenshot folder?

You can select multiple files together. Each receives a queued or processing status, and you can download the ready AVIF images in one ZIP. Very large batches need adequate memory.

Will every PNG become much smaller?

No fixed reduction is guaranteed. Content, original optimization, dimensions and quality all affect size. Simple graphics and already small files may benefit less than large images.
